Mei Zhang

Mei Zhang Dr. Mei Zhang has a strong background in mouse models, mammary gland biology, and stem cell biology. She has successfully identified tumor-initiating cells (aka cancer stem cells) with stem cell features through in vivo limiting dilution transplantation assays using a mouse model of human breast cacner. She has also identified genes that are responsible for radiation resistance of the cancer stem cells, and those in epigenetic regulation shown to be critical for stem cell function.

Dr. Zhang's lab is interested in studying the intratumoral heterogeneity of breast cancer, the interactions between cancer stem cells with the local microenvironment, and characterizing the spatial distribution and behaviors of the cancer stem cells during tumor growth using in vivo live imaging.
