Dear UPCI Members:
I am very pleased to invite you to attend the 25th Annual UPCI Scientific Retreat on Friday June 14, 2013. The 2013 retreat will be a one-day event held at the Petersen Events Center in Oakland – allowing easy and time efficient access for our researchers, clinicians, staff, and students.
This year's event will feature the return of last year's popular “Hot Papers/Cool Science” session; two breakout sessions focusing on the topics of “Population Sciences: Writing a Successful PCORI Grant” and “Imaging from Pre-clinical to Humans”; and a Clinical Translation session. All of these topics are of the utmost importance and relevance to all who are interested in cancer – from graduate students to senior investigators in the basic, clinical, translational and population sciences.
The Keynote Address will be given by Dr. Stephen Baylin (Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center), an international expert in epigenetics and genetics of cancer. Additionally, Dr. Robert Gillies (Moffitt Cancer Center), known for his extensive research contributing to the advancement of the field of molecular and functional imaging of cancer, will be the Guest Speaker for the Imaging session.
I very much look forward to your attendance and participation in this wonderful opportunity for all members of the Institute. The UPCI Retreat provides a chance to learn about and contribute to our scientific environment through formal and informal interactions. We especially encourage you to bring students and fellows, as our trainees are so vital to our future.
All information and forms regarding the retreat can be found on the UPCI Web site. Please use the online registration and abstract submission forms for this year's event. The deadline for registration and abstract submission is May 22, 2013. For questions, please contact Lisa George, Retreat Coordinator, at email@example.com.
