CORE C: TISSUE PROCUREMENT AND HISTOPATHOLOGY CORE

Scientific Achievements:
The tissue bank core obtains blood and tissue samples to be used in the basic science and translational research projects that are sponsored by the Head and Neck Cancer Program and the Oral Cancer Center. The Tissue Bank has two employees who function as Tissue Banking Technologists and one dedicated Pathologist, who is also the Core leader.
During the past 9 months, the core has triaged 211 surgical patients. 190 of these patients (90%) were consented to participate in the general tissue banking protocol. Of these patients, we were able to obtain materials on 126 patients (66.3%).
