PROJECT 1: PSYCHOSOCIAL INTERVENTION AMONG ORAL CANCER PATIENTS
Principal Investigator: Andrew Baum, PhD
This study is designed to evaluate a psychosocial intervention for head and neck cancer patients. Pre- and post-intervention assessment of stress, tobacco use, psychological adjustment, and quality of life outcomes are used to evaluate this program. As of September 2004 we have recruited 130 total participants (83 male, 47 female). We are currently collecting follow-up data from subjects recruited within the past 12 months, completing entry and verification of previously collected data, and have begun some preliminary analyses of existing data. For example, preliminary analyses include: smoking cessation at 1 month (94% intervention; 91% control) and cessation at 6 months (89% intervention, 82% control). Within the next year we will complete data collection, enabling complete analyses of study aims.
