Clinical research at UPCI consists of clinical and laboratorinvestigations in a wide range of cancer types. The division oversees UPCI's participation in a multi-institutional cooperative groups and alliances, which include Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, the North American Brain Tumor Consortium, and the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group. The primary goal of researchers in this division is the prompt and careful translation of promising preclinical observations into new and innovative clinical techniques in cancer therapy and prevention.
Significant advances in cancer therapy and prevention require a better understanding of the factors that influence cancer development. The subsequent utilization of this knowledge enables development of new clinical therapies and prevention techniques, as well as improvements to standard oncological treatment regimens. The Clinical Investigations Division is organized into disease-oriented centers or programs; such an arrangement facilitates the multidisciplinary clinical and translational research conducted at UPCI.
