Speaker: Karen L. Schmidt, PhD, in Biological Anthropology
Lecture Title: Educational Administration

Karen L. Schmidt, PhD, is a research facilitator in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, University of Pittsburgh. In her current role as director of the Responsible Conduct of Research Training Center, Dr. Schmidt has developed a series of workshops to enhance research ethics training opportunities currently available at the University. She has experience as a member of the University of Pittsburgh Institutional Review Board and has mentored postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduates in the responsible conduct of research. Dr. Schmidt received her PhD in Biological Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. Following several teaching positions at other universities, including Indiana University of Pennsylvania, postdoctoral fellowship (F32) and career award (K01) grants from the National Institute of Mental Health brought her to the University of Pittsburgh, where she pursued a research program on deficits in nonverbal expression in persons with physical and mental disorders in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry. More recently, she has investigated movement and expression in individuals with congenital disorders affecting facial development as a faculty member with the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Beginning in 2012, Dr. Schmidt joined the CTSI in an administrative role as Research Facilitator.
