Lecture Title: Applying for Grants from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)

Applying for Grants from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) The 2010 Affordable Care Act established the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (http://www.pcori.org), which is funded, in part, by fees collected from health insurers. There are four soon-to-expire PCORI funding announcements of particular relevance to UPCI investigators in the Biobehavioral Medicine in Oncology and Cancer Epidemiology, Prevention, and Control Programs. Letters of Intent are due by February 15, 2013 for: Assessment of Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment Options, Improving Healthcare Communication and Dissemination Research Addressing Disparities. Dr. Robinson, a former PCORI SRO, will provide tips for preparing applications that meet the PCORI definition of patient-centered outcomes research and score well on PCORI's unique review criteria.

The Nimick Conference Room is located on the first floor of the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Ave, Shadyside. After entering the building walk past the volunteer and information desk and then turn right and through the secure glass doors to the elevators. The Nimick is on the 1st floor. You may need to sign in with security if you don't normally have access. Out of the elevator turn left to the end of the hall to the Conference Room.

Parking is available in the garage at the UPMC Cancer Pavilion across the street from the Hillman Cancer Center (~$6 cash/credit for 1-2 hours). There are also parking meters along Centre Avenue, Cypress Street and Baum Boulevard in the blocks surrounding the Cancer Center. The 71A & 71C both travel from Oakland and stop at Cypress Street just beyond the Cancer Center entrance. UPMC and Pitt shuttles also run between Oakland and Shadyside: http://www.pc.pitt.edu/transportation/routes.html http://www.upmc.com/patients-visitors/visitor-info/Documents/blue-shuttle-schedule.pdf
