UPCI provides a platform for interactions and collaborations among investigators with common interests, and provides a conduit for the exchange of state-of-the-art basic and clinical information related to cancer etiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. This includes being notified by e-mail or hard copy of all relevant communications about research and clinical funding opportunities, and UPCI program activities. UPCI members have first priority with respect to their use of shared facilities. Easy access to UPCI laboratory facilities and support services greatly enhances the investigator's ability to perform productive studies. UPCI also supports UPCI-wide and program-specific seminars that are open to all members. In addition, there is exposure to opportunities for multidisciplinary interactions that may assist in obtaining peer-reviewed or other sources of external research funding and/or to participate in basic, clinical and translational cancer research. Members also have access to the recently implemented pre-submission review process. This process provides reviews of grant proposal drafts by a group of experienced faculty, and by several support staff with scientific and editorial expertise, to evaluate the proposals and make recommendations for improvements prior to submission for peer-review funding. UPCI members are also eligible for inclusion in UPCI's mentorship program.
