Overview

Magee-Womens Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), two nationally recognized centers of excellence, collaborate in research and clinical areas to offer the Magee-Womens Gynecologic Cancer Program of UPMC Cancer Centers. Magee, a nationally designated Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, and UPCI, the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, provide high quality, research-driven care for women with cancers of the uterus, ovaries, cervix, vulva, and fallopian tubes.

Clinical and translational research efforts include clinical trials sponsored by the NCI and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) and locally developed protocols using advanced therapeutic technologies. Researchers collaborate with UPCI Facilities and Programs, including the Cancer Biomarkers Facility; the Cancer Epidemiology, Prevention, and Control Program; and the Cancer Immunology, Immunotherapy, and Immunoprevention Program. Many investigators also participate in the Gynecologic Disease Program, a collaborative research partnership involving UPCI, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the Windber Research Institute, and Georgetown University Medical Center.

The goal of the Gynecologic Cancer Program of UPMC Cancer Centers at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC is to help women maintain gynecologic health, and when necessary, to provide early cancer detection and individualized intervention. An experienced and dedicated team of gynecologic oncologists, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, research and behavioral scientists, and an active clinical staff are all part of a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian and gynecologic cancers.
