Overview
The Behavioral Medicine Facility (BMF) is designed to aid and assist the Behavioral Medicine Community.
The BMF provides up-to-date laboratory assays to assist behavioral scientists conducting basic, clinical, and translational research across a broad front of cancer-relevant issues. Our goal is to provide the Behavioral Medicine community with a state-of-the-art laboratory capable of running both routine, standard assays as well as developing new and novel assays, all designed to further behavioral research.
Services:
The BMF has performed the majority of its assays for over 13 years. These include determination of catecholamine levels (epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine) in urine, plasma, and platelets, ELISA assays to determine serum/plasma levels of various cytokines, determination of salivary and plasma cortisol levels and natural killer cell activity.
More recently, we have determined plasma/serum levels of 8-OHDG, a by-product of DNA damage and repair. In the past year, we have begun to determine telomerase activity in isolated lymphocytes.
The BMF is willing to consider any laboratory assay requested by an investigator. To explore the use of a new assay or procedure, contact the BMF Director. He will work with you to determine the feasibility of the assay and, if feasible, will work with the BMF staff to develop the assay and gather quality assurance data.
