Mentoring

The goal of the mentorship program is to assist junior faculty members in developing an outstanding research program and a successful academic career. To this end, every junior investigator is assigned a mentoring committee, which includes three senior faculty members. The committee meets formally with the mentee twice every year to review the mentee’s program, funding, and progress made during the previous year, as well as to set the goals for the following year. In addition the members of the mentoring committee assist each mentee in preparing manuscripts and grant applications as well as in identifying opportunities for collaboration at UPCI, at the University of Pittsburgh, and at other Institutions. The program is coordinated by Dr. Soldano Ferrone, Associate Director for Faculty Career Development and Advancement; Professor of Surgery, of Immunology, of Pathology. He participates in the selection of the members of the mentoring committee for each mentee and monitors the program. If you have any questions about mentoring at UPCI, please contact Laurice Vance, Senior Administrator for Dr. Soldano Ferrone, at vancela@upmc.edu.
