Services & Equipment
CPAF services fall under three categories:
- Analytical chemistry services, including the identification and/or quantitation of drugs, metabolites, metabolizing enzymes, and other endogenous products in biological matrices;
- Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) services, including PK modeling and PK/PD interaction assessment in both preclinical and clinical settings; and
- Consultation with UPCI investigators in the design of studies involving analytical chemical, PK, or PD efforts.
Services are evaluated on a regular basis to assess levels of scientific demand, potential benefits of research, and financial feasibility. The facility encourages suggestions and requests for new assays or instrumentation from investigators that require additional support for their research activities. CPAF attempts to maintain maximum flexibility, and is eager to work with individuals on special project needs that are not necessarily regular activities within the facility. CPAF strives to support and enhance the research environment; every effort is made to acquire new instrumentation, software, or capabilities as the field of analytical chemistry and pharmacokinetics advances in technique and concept.
Major Analytical Chemical Instrumentation
LC-MS Systems #1 and #2: Thermo Finnigan MSQ mass spectrometer, Agilent model 1100 binary pump and autosampler, operated under Thermo Finnigan Excalibur software.
LC-MS/MS Systems #1 and #2: Waters QuattroMicro triple stage mass spectrometer, Agilent model 1100 binary pump and autosampler, both operated under Masslynx version 4.0.
LC-MS/MS System #3: Applied Biosystems 4000Q hybrid triple-quadrupole, linear ion-trap mass spectrometer, Agilent model 1200 binary pump, autosampler, diode array detector, and thermal column compartment.
HPLC System #1: Hewlett-Packard 1100 quaternary pump, Agilent 1100 autosampler and degasser, Agilent 1260 variable wavelength detector, and ChromPerfect data collection software.
HPLC System #2: Waters Alliance 2695 separations module, Waters 2487 programmable multiwavelength detector, Waters 996 photodiode array detector, Waters 474 fluorescence detector, and a connection to Waters MassLynx data collection software.
HPLC System #3: Beckman System Gold 508 autosampler, 166 detector, 126 solvent module, and IN/US beta-ram model 2B flow-through radio-isotope detector.
Additional HPLC Detectors and Equipment: 1050 quaternary pump with degasser, Waters 474 scanning fluorescence detector (3), Waters 510 pump (2), Bioanalytical Systems LC-4B electrochemical detector, Aminco fluoromonitor, Alltech evaporative light scattering detector, ESA Coulochem model 5100A electrochemical detector, ChromPerfects chromatography software.
Other instrumentation: Perkin-Elmer model AAnalyst 600 atomic absorption spectrometer with THGA graphite tube furnace, AS 800 furnace autosampler, data management software, and Lenovo computer.
