Gurkamal Chatta, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Hematology-Oncology in the Department of Medicine, and Co-Leader of the Cancer and Aging Program. He is an experienced genitourinary medical oncologist with expertise in translational research focused on prostate cancer. With his training and background in the two important and highly related fields of oncology and geriatrics, Dr. Chatta brings a very broad and unique perspective to the Cancer and Aging Program. He has a collaborative laboratory program focused on delineating and circumventing immune suppression in prostate cancer, and his group is currently developing vaccines for prostate cancer, both in preclinical and clinical models. Dr. Chatta has ongoing collaborative research projects with the CI3 Program and the Experimental Therapeutics Program, and is intimately involved in translating the research into the design and implementation of biologic trials and novel early phase trials in advanced prostate cancer.

Stephanie A. Studenski, MD, MPH, Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, serves as Co-Leader of the Cancer and Aging Program. She is one of the nation’s foremost authorities on mobility and function in the elderly. Dr. Studenski is widely known for developing evaluations and treatments for elderly patients who may have difficulties with mobility or function, and her expertise in geriatrics is a vital component of the program. Dr. Studenski received her nursing and medical degrees from the University of Kansas, and her MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her post-doctoral training included fellowships in the Division of Rheumatic and Genetic Diseases and Geriatrics at Duke University Medical Center. Before coming to Pitt, Studenski spent a decade as Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center on Aging at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
