Dr. Brufsky is a Professor of Medicine and Associate Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology of the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Brufsky serves as Co-Director of the Magee-Womens Breast Cancer Program of UPMC Cancer Centers and as the Co-Leader for Breast Cancer at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Dr. Brufsky received his medical degree and his PhD in Developmental Biology from the University of Connecticut. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and a fellowship in medical oncology and bone marrow transplantation at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Brufsky is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Brufsky served as an associate physician and instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Brufsky’s current research interests include clinical and translational research relating to the therapy of breast and genitourinary cancers. He manages approximately 30 clinical trials investigating various aspects of breast cancer etiology and treatment. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Association for Cancer Research, among others. A prolific lecturer and author, Dr. Brufsky has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and reviews in top-tier journals such as Cancer, Clinical Breast Cancer, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Seminars in Oncology. He also serves as a reviewer for several journals including Cancer, Cancer Investigation, Clinical Breast Cancer, and Oncology.
Dr. Johnson is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Johnson serves as Co-Director of the Magee-Womens Breast Cancer Program of UPMC Cancer Centers and as the Co-Leader for Breast Cancer at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, graduating cum laude in 1983. Dr. Johnson completed surgical training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and joined the staff of the Department of Surgery in 1989. He has been an active member of the medical staff at Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center since that time. He is board certified in Surgery. Dr. Johnson has focused his academic career on the management of benign and malignant breast disease. His research group has made significant contributions to the management of breast cancer patients in the areas of minimally invasive biopsy, sentinel lymphatic mapping, breast conserving surgery, and promotion of multi-disciplinary breast cancer care. Dr. Johnson is an active member of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project, serving on the Breast Committee, and is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Diseases, the American College of Surgeons, and the Pittsburgh Surgical Society. He has served on committees that have helped to shape public policy on issues of breast conserving surgery, minimally invasive lymph node staging, MRI in breast cancer care, and partial breast irradiation. He is an accomplished author, having written book chapters and multiple journal articles relating to breast health.
